PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION

Q: How is my information protected?
A: Your privacy is our number one concern. Due to the sensitive nature of this app, we have emphasized the safeguarding and responsible use of your information. This is especially true of personally-identifiable information (PII), or information that could potentially identify a specific individual.

For full details of how your information is protected, you can visit https://heroescircle.org/hero-app/privacy-policy

Q: What kind of data is being tracked in this app and how will it be used?
A: We primarily track three categories of data:

  1. We track your pre- and post-Breath Brake survey responses and your survey responses. This information helps us improve the app and understand more about how it helps users.
  2. We track information that is associated with your profile. That helps ensure that you have a smooth experience within the app.
  3. Finally, we collect technical data about how you interact with the app. We work with a third-party research partner to analyze this usage data. Before data is shared with them, any personally-identifying information is removed, grouped with other app users’ data, and randomized so that the aggregate data can be analyzed without tracing it to an individual app user.

For full details, you can visit https://heroescircle.org/hero-app/privacy-policy.

Q: Why do you need my location?
A: The thank-you messages that you generate in the app are displayed to the children using a digitally-rendered globe. The rendering shows the origin point of the thank-you message and simulates its delivery to the child’s location.

We request your city, state and country location to pinpoint the origin of the thank you messages you send to the children of the Heroes Circle. If you choose not to share this information, the rendering will default to a Detroit, Michigan, USA origin point.

Q: Who will see my information?
A: Survey results may be accessed by the Chief Innovation Officer and the Chief Medical Officer at the Heroes Circle for research purposes. We work with a third-party research partner to analyze usage data for the app. Before data is shared with them, any personally-identifying information is removed, grouped with other app users’ data, and randomized so that the aggregate data can be analyzed without tracing it to an individual app user.

ABOUT THE HEROES CIRCLE

Q: What is the Heroes Circle?
A: The Heroes Circle is a global healing and wellness initiative inspired by the children of Kids Kicking Cancer, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers evidence-based martial arts therapy to kids. For more than twenty years, our story has been about helping people in pain find their power, peace and purpose.

In 1999, Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg started Kids Kicking Cancer in response to the amazing benefits he found that martial arts meditation and breathing techniques have for those in great pain and stress — particularly children.

As the program began to develop, parents, doctors, nurses and many others began to comment on the changes they saw in the boys and girls who had joined our classes. These adults were nothing short of mesmerized as they witnessed kids utilizing a technique for taking control of pain, fear and anger. In addition, the children became natural teachers of these methods.
Inspired by the children of Kids Kicking Cancer, the Heroes Circle program teaches meditative breathing, mindfulness and movement, while teaching us how to work through overwhelming emotions like pain, fear and anger.

Q: What do children with cancer have to do with my recovery?
A: In the Heroes Circle program, we learn that we have the ability to not be afraid of our pain, but to connect to an inner power that allows us to breathe in the light and blow out the darkness.
When children in our program feel that they have the power to transcend their pain, they not only lower their pain, but they become an inspiration to the world, giving the children the opportunity to feel their own light, that inner energy, and push out the pain.

Helping the children realize their power changes their lives. And when you face your darkness by breathing in the light and defeating that beast, you honor and support the children. You become part of the Heroes Circle -- part of a family that is growing this light across the globe
