We understand the importance of treating a child holistically, including parents and siblings in the program.

Caring for a seriously ill child is, perhaps, the most difficult and emotionally draining task any parent can experience. Not only does the parent need to face the personal trauma of dealing with his or her own pain in watching their child suffer, but they are also tasked with mentoring their child through emotional upheaval and the harsh demands of treatment.

Thanks to the support of Impact100 Oakland County, the Heroes Circle was able to build and pilot a full parent support program that provides education, expressive outlets and psychological support on an ongoing basis. Our efforts are aimed at giving parents and caregivers practical information and social opportunities among families going through similar experiences.

We believe that no parent should face the challenges of pediatric illness alone.

If we support our Heroes Circle parents and caregivers, it is our little heroes who benefit from a calmer, happier and more well-connected home.

Since our inception, we have committed to providing martial arts therapy to children and families at no cost.

However, we know that each of these children has stressors and challenges beyond our classes, as many of our families suffer financially from medical bills and other expenses (COVID-19 has only exacerbated these issues).

Family Support

Because we consider these families our own, we offer a family service emergency fund for parents and children in our program who are struggling financially. This service provides both basic support and mental wellness when desperately needed.

What people are saying about the Heroes Circle

I liked being with other warrior momma's and having a moment to focus on myself and reflect.

With Kids Kicking Cancer you are never alone.

I thought this was really nice, sometimes the parents have to worry so much about their kids and forget to take care of themselves too.

Today when my first child got up, I started to think "my time" is over, but immediately changed that thought to "I may be overwhelmed, but I am loved". I decided to concentrate on the love I am surrounded by rather than the many things I have to do.

The Heroes Circle has made such a difference in our lives that it brings tears to my eyes. You have changed our lives and bring so much joy into our hearts. I can’t thank you and the entire staff enough. You and your staff work so hard to make everyone and all the kids so happy and feel so special. We have met so many amazing families that are so sweet and kind. It’s always so nice to see them at events and how their children have grown. We are so grateful for all of you, and we are so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful organization.

…it helped to know everyone else struggles with issues like I do.

A few days ago, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after being sick and in bed almost all day every day for over a year. Suffering from a chronic illness while having three children who suffer from one too (sickle cell) is so overwhelming. I am not able to do much for my kids and can’t even cook for them on a daily but today I was able to watch them learn and cook and simply have fun and smile. Thank you for always thinking of us and helping us along the many journeys we face. We really needed some joy today and that is what this gave us . We love and appreciate you all more than words can say! Thank you for all that you do.
